Bernard Phillips - born London 1928

My teens coincided with WW2, which was at times exciting and at other times fearful but always a distraction from schoolwork. However, after a spell in the R.A.F., I studied pharmacy and practiced for ten years. During this time I became absorbed in photography, and decided a career change. After graduating from a full time course in photography, design, and art history, I commenced my career in advertising photography which would span over thirty years. My forte was still-life, which I still find fascinating in my fine art work. Now retired from the commercial world, I am involved in exploring the visual possibilities, not at first recognized, in the sometimes more ordinary elements around us (or even within us). I do not intend any pseudo-profound statement in or about my pictures. My intent is purely a visual one. I ask viewers to make of them what they will.
