Doug Beasley
Doug Beasley’s personal vision explores the spiritual aspects of people and place. His ongoing body of work “Sacred Places” explores what is considered sacred, spiritual and ritualized in other cultures as well as our own. His photography is concerned with how the sacred is recognized and expressed in everyday life. Past bodies of work have included "Sacred Sites" of the Lakota Indians in South Dakota, the indigenous Mayans of Guatemala and shamanism in Peru. Doug’s work has been exhibited internationally and is widely published in magazines such as The Sun, B&W and PhotoVision. His first book, “Japan: A Nisei’s First Encounter” offers insight into Doug’s journey to his mother’s homeland. His most recent project, funded by a McKnight Foundation Photography Fellowship, explores disappearing green space around the country.
Doug Beasley is the founder and director of Vision Quest Photographic Arts Center providing photographic workshops that emphasize vision and personal expression. Along with Doug's dynamic commitment to teaching, he has owned his own photographic studio in Minneapolis since 1984 where he pursues fine art based commercial assignments. He currently shoots throughout the country for various advertising, educational, public service and non-profit clients.
Doug lives in a small wooden house in St.Paul, surrounded by trees, where he tends his Japanese gardens. He is a lover of late night discussions and very strong coffee. Personal heroes include Jimi Hendrix and the Dalai Lama.
