"Happisburgh"
Richard Drury
Happisburgh is a village on the east coast of England, around twenty miles from my studio. It is gradually being eroded by the sea. I am intrigued by this constant process of erosion, destruction and decay that the village is subject to. Over the past five years I have made many trips to the area, photographing the changing landscape and remnants of houses that I have found on the beach. As an advertising photographer shooting products commercially, I am particularly interested in photographing objects at the other end of their lives; A doorlock with no door, a lampshade with no light. These seem to me heavy with the weight of time, the influence of humanity and the elements. Although the results of natural destructive forces, they are also beautiful objects.
