Vee Speers



Vee Speers was born in Australia and studied Fine Art and Photography at Queensland College of Art. She later worked as a stills photographer with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney, capturing images of actors and celebrities for publicity in Australia and overseas.
Vee has been living in Paris for 12 years working in fashion, photojournalism, and fine art photography. She was awarded the Hasselblad / Prophoto prize in 1994 in Paris, and then completed a series of drag queens taken backstage at the cabarets in Pigalle. "Skin" was shown in 1999 at Stills Gallery, Sydney, in 2000 at La Casa Lamm as part of Photoseptiembre and the Festival of Light, then was followed by two more shows at the galleries of Alliance Francaise and La Tirana in Mexico City.
The image "Second Skin" was chosen to represent and publicize the International Congress of Sexual Diversity held in Mexico City, 2000.
Vee's work "Bordello" a series inspired by the French Brothels of the 1920's, is printed using the carbon technique of the Atelier Fresson. "Bordello" was exhibited with the group Neobjectif at the Salon des Comparaisons, Paris 2002 and in April at the Ken Damy Museum, Brescia, Italy, and will be shown at the Past Rays Gallery, Yokohama, Japan from September 2002.
